When you need addiction treatment, one of your most important initial decisions is to determine which level or levels of care are right for you. For many people, a partial hospitalization program (PHP) offers the ideal balance of structured clinical services and opportunities for independent living. Several facilities within our network offer addiction treatment services at the PHP level.
What is a Partial Hospitalization Program?
A partial hospitalization program, or a PHP, is a form of outpatient treatment for people who have become addicted to alcohol, benzodiazepines, opioids, and other substances.
Individuals who participate in a partial hospitalization program usually take part in full days of treatment, six days a week. However, unlike what occurs in residential treatment, PHP patients do not live at the facility. In the evenings, on weekends, and at other times when treatment is not in session, patients can return to their homes or to a sober living house.
PHPs are the highest level of outpatient care at the treatment centers that are affiliated with Creekside Recovery Network. Here is where PHPs fall in our continuum of addiction rehab services (starting with the most intensive level of care and working down):
- Residential treatment
- Partial hospitalization program
- Intensive outpatient program
- Outpatient treatment
Many people transition into a PHP for step-down support after they have completed residential care. However, a history of prior treatment is not a requirement for admission into Creekside Recovery Network’s PHPs. If you do not require round-the-clock care, but you need more robust services than you can receive at the IOP level, you can enter treatment with us directly at the PHP level.
After completing a partial hospitalization program, you may exit treatment or step down to the IOP or outpatient levels. This continuum ensures that we can provide you with the focused care that best meets your unique needs.

What to Expect at Our Partial Hospitalization Programs?
At Creekside Recovery Network, we are committed to providing every patient with the customized care that best meets the full scope of their unique needs. This means that one person’s experience in our partial hospitalization program will not be identical to another’s.
However, in general, we are confident that everyone who receives care in a partial hospitalization program at one of our addiction treatment centers can benefit from features such as the following:
Multiple Types of Therapy
Although groups are a significant part of care at the PHP level, you may also receive other types of therapy as needed. We have included a list of services in a later section on this page. You are always welcome to contact us directly for additional information about the therapies and services that may be included in your care at one of our PHPs.
Skilled Treatment Professionals
When you are in a Creekside Recovery Network partial hospitalization program, you will work with a team of dedicated and compassionate professionals. Our caregivers will take the time to get to know you as a unique individual, so we can be sure we are providing the services and support that will best prepare you for long-term success.
Safe and Respectful Environment
We are committed to ensuring that our facilities remain safe spaces where all patients, staff, and visitors are treated with compassion and respect. In addition to providing quality clinical services, we will work with you to help you rebuild your self-esteem and rediscover your innate talents and capabilities. We will also demonstrate to you that you are a valuable person who deserves to live a healthier, drug-free life.
Shared Support
While you are in a partial hospitalization program, you will have many opportunities to interact with other patients who are working toward similar goals. During group therapy sessions, you can express your thoughts, learn from the insights and experiences of others, and discover the power of shared support. This can be a valuable introduction to the many potential benefits of actively engaging with other members of the recovery community.
Discharge Planning
Your time in a partial hospitalization program can be an important step on your path toward long-term recovery from addiction. But your journey will continue long after you have completed treatment with us. To ensure that you have access to the services and resources that can support you in the future, we will develop a personalized discharge plan for you before you transition out of our care.
Partial Hospitalization vs. Day Treatment Programs
One of the challenges of finding the right addiction provider for yourself or a loved one is learning the meanings of many new treatment-related terms. This can include descriptions of therapies, diagnostic criteria, and levels of care.
For example, if you have seen the term “day treatment” before, you may wonder what the difference is between a partial hospitalization program vs. a day treatment program.
The truth is that, in most cases, these are two terms to describe the same type of programming. As we have noted elsewhere on this page, a partial hospitalization program features treatment during the day, with patients returning to their homes or to a supportive residence in the evening. Most day treatment programs function in the same manner.

What Services Are Offered During Our Partial Hospitalization Program?
Group therapy is the main method of treatment in our partial hospitalization program, but several other therapies and services are also available as needed. During a person’s time in one of our PHPs, their care may include elements such as the following:
- Individual therapy
- Family therapy
- Medication-assisted treatment (MAT)
- Eye movement desensitization and reprocessing (EMDR) therapy
- Reiki
- Music therapy
- Brainspotting therapy
- Red light therapy
Who Is a Good Fit For Our PHP Program?
Creekside Recovery Network makes all admissions decisions on a case-by-case basis, following a thorough review of each prospective patient’s treatment history and current needs. This policy applies to our partial hospitalization programs and to all other levels of care at our facilities.
With that in mind, the following are the general criteria that may make someone a good fit for one of our PHPs:
- Adult (age 18 and over)
- Has been diagnosed with a substance use disorder (which is the clinical term for addiction)
- May have certain dual diagnosis mental health conditions
- Can benefit from full days of care, five days per week
- Does not need 24-hour care or round-the-clock supervision
- Has transportation to and from treatment
